Types and Reasons for Wearing Personal Protective Equipment

Actually, safety is a major concern for both employers and employees. In every year, different accidents occur in different industries due to the absence of proper personal protective equipment or PPE. This occurs when workers fail to wear these protective materials either because they do not have or due to ignorance.

A PPE is a material worn by workers and laborers in order to reduce the risk of contracting an injury or accident when discharging his duties. These accidents can be caused by various factors such as falling as well as flying objects. Fire and chemical spillage are other causes. Due to the diversity of work-related accidents, these protective clothing occur in different types. These protective address areas like.

a. Head protection.

The first area is the head protection. Some of the common head protective materials include the hard hats. It is mostly worn by workers who work on a construction site. They are worn to protect the workers from falling objects like stones, hammers, nails, and other construction equipment. Hard hats are also ideal for protecting workers from work-related flying objects. Others will come with accessories like face shields and earmuffs.

b. Respiratory protection.

Respiratory protection is another crucial area that needs to be properly addressed. Respiratory protection is provided to workers exposed to toxic and harmful substances. These are emissions that can cause respiratory problems. Some of the common protective materials worn include the respirators and nose masks.

c. Face, eye, and hearing protection.

Even though eye and face protection fall under head protection, there are some circumstances where the face and eye protection differs from head protection. Spectacles, face masks, face shields and safety goggles are some of the common face and eye protective clothing materials. They are mostly worn by workers who encounter flying objects.

In addition, hearing risks are avoided by wearing hearing protection equipment like earplugs and earmuffs. They are ideal for workers in a noisy environment. When looking for these protective materials and products, it is important to check whether they have met industry safety regulations. This is the only way in which your safety is guaranteed. It eliminates cases of safety compromise.

d. Foot, hand and skin protection.

These areas should also be addressed. Different working areas will demand different organs protections. The risks that come with your work will determine the glove to wear. For instance, latex and waterproof gloves are worn by workers exposed to liquid related risks and other infections. In a construction site or metal processing firm, rubber and cut resistant gloves are ideal. This is not different when it comes to skin. However, for the foot protection, safety boots is the common foot protection clothing material worn.
