Tips to Refinishing Hardwood Floors.

When it comes to refinishing the hardwood floor, you will need to have the appropriate materials that will be used in this process. There are a number of refinishing materials you need to have before you start the process which can include the shop vac, shop rags, sandpapers, stain application pad, furnish foam rollers, oil-based stains and so on. After getting the materials, you now prepare the floor which can include removing carpet tacks, nails, and other objects.

The next step after removing the carpet tacks and nails from the floor, you need to send this floor using the 60-grit sandpaper and belts sander. The same procedure should be repeated more than once with different sizes of sandpapers and afterward use the shop vac in removing the dust in the debris.

The step that will follow flow sanding will be water popping. What water popping means is the process of getting the floor wet to help in raising the grain. This is to allow the wood to absorb more of the stain. Water popping is possible by dipping the shop rag in water then using it to wipe the floor.

After we are done with the water popping, you need to stain the floor using oil-based stains of which you use the stain applicator pads. There is a procedure to follow when applying the oil-based stains because, after the first application, you should give it 24 to 48 hours to dry. After the oil-based stains have dried up, you should apply the polyurethane using the foam roller then allow it two hours to dry.

Now after you are done with the coating, it is time you start the buffing using the 220-grit screen. After buffing, you should wipe the floor so that you can apply the second coating using polyurethane of what you should repeat this same process for 3-4 times. After you’re done with this process, your floor will be a brand-new.
